Most of us have ridden in a boat of some kind at some point in our life. In this inspirational feature I have decided to compile a collection of great traditional illustrations that depict ships of different varieties. In the post you will see larger scale ships, which differ from boats in ways. Most of the differences are based on size, cargo, passengers, or the fact that ships and vessels were traditionally built with sails. The first known water vessels were built more than 10,000 years ago in the Neolithic Period, however they were not specifically categorized as ships.
Over the years we have known hundreds of famous and well-known ships that have sailed our oceans. Some of the most popular being; the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria used by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century. A more modern example being the Titanic which sailed and sank 100 years ago in 1912. These paintings below contain great vessels that range from sail boats, to pirate ships, to cruise ships. If you like boats then you will enjoy these great artworks.
