This page outlines the simple process of installing the Photoshop resources that you can download on my website. You can find these directions outlined on many other websites, but since i give away a lot of free resources for Photoshop i thought it would be helpful to at least put my own page up. Below are some simple instructions for installing Photoshop brushes, patterns, layer styles, and gradients.
Above i have placed a picture of what each Photoshop file looks like for each resources. You can see that they are labeled to differentiate between each one.
Note: These are Mac instructions. Windows will be slightly different, but the same basic process is there.
After you have unzipped the download. You need to copy the selected resource from the unzipped folder.
You can copy by right clicking and selecting Copy, pressing Command + C on your keyboard, or even selecting Edit > Copy from the Menu at the top of the screen.
After Copying you need to open the Applications folder in your dock > Click on your Adobe Photoshop Icon > and select the folder labeled “Presets” which you can see in the image below.
After selecting the “Presets” folder you will see many different resource folders including the Brushes, Patterns, Styles, and Gradients folders(which are circled below).
If you are installing Photoshop Brushes you would select the Brushes folder > Click the Open in Finder button at the bottom of the group > and then simply paste the resource into the folder. The exact same process should be done for any of the Photoshop resources whether it’s brushes, patterns, layer styles, or gradients.
When the resource file is placed in the appropriate folder you will then see it show up in your Preset Manager. If it is brushes you will see them in a similar list like the one below. You can see the large list of Photoshop brushes that i have installed using this process, from the image below.
If you don’t see your brushes in the manager you may need to restart Photoshop for the changes to take affect.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I hope these instructions prove to be at least somewhat helpful.
